COLIFORM BACTERIA are not normally found in groundwater, rather they are found in great numbers in
animal intestines, surface soil and water, vegetation, insects and in valving and packing materials. In Themselves,
they do not cause disease but since they are present in large numbers, they are easy to test for and are a good
indicator of possible contamination. If found, the well should be disinfected and resampled.
